Welcome to Fantom Island, where iLL-Literacy's legend finds its habitat. If you've happened upon this portal, may we be as bold as to assert that nested in you is a healthy curiosity. Whether you were drawn here by the Slanted i at this page's 1-o-clock, the quick flash of during loading, or simply because you have a click-happy finger – you've arrived. HihowRUhi?

The peculiar thing about Fantom Island is that it is but a mirage – an Imaginary oasis isolated in the confines of our brainwaves. We shall gradually reveal morsels of our folklore here, so please visit often. To return, simply bring your Imagination as your passport.

ILL-EVENT in OAK: TODAY – Protest the Murder of Oscar Grant

This afternoon we will be gathering at the Oakland Fruitvale BART Station, the site where 22-year-old father Oscar Grant III was murdered by a police officer on New Year’s Day while lying restrained and face down.

(via ColinResponse)

The protest will focus on the murders of Grant, civilians in Gaza, and innocents worldwide.  If you’re in the Bay, please come and show your support.

TODAY: Wednesday, January 17 :: 3 – 8pm
Fruitvale BART Station

UPDATE:

There’s a good possibility that BART will prevent people from heading to Fruitvale. They did that back in Nov. for the “Stop the Raids” demonstrations, so have a backup plan.

511 can give alt. routes, under “Additional Options” you can exclude BART:

AC Transit has a map of the Oakland area (PDF, right-click and save-as!):
http://www.actransit.org/pdf/schedulemaps/Oak.pdf

If they’re just shutting down the station, you can ride to Lake Merritt, then walk two blocks north to 11th St, where you can take the AC Transit 1 westbound out to Fruitvale, getting off at 34th Ave.

If you’re coming from SF, you can also avoid BART altogether by riding AC Transit’s OX bus from the Transbay Terminal ($3.50), getting off at Park & Buena Vista in Alameda, and transferring to either the 50 and 19, both end at Fruitvale.
