As promised, we here at iLL-Lit are doing our best to run a transparent administration, allowing you to be a fly on the wall and observe as we venture into the release of our first album ever, iB4the1. But not “fly on the wall” in a bad way where you’re picking at our curry and leaving us with existential questions as to whether swatting you is actually swatting ourselves, but more “fly on the wall” like early J-Lo…on the wall.
So there would be no way to let you in on the process without introducing you to our friends at Audible Treats, who have partnered with us to develop the marketing and publicity campaign for the complex project that is our album! Michelle, Dan, Gavin, and the rest of the crew are a mastermind collective who have not only welcomed us with open arms into our new Brooklyn neighborhood, but who were also among the chosen few who didn’t spit in our faces and curse our firstborns when we approached them with the concept of a 3-part album with +5-minute tracks, academically-toned song synopses, and D.I.Y. videos, all of which we’re giving out free for download.

Ever since we first went pro in ’05, we’ve adamantly kept our production, administration, and PR in-house in order to preserve our creative freedom and ability to connect directly with our audiences. So as a crew coming into the industry self-raised all Tarzan-style, it’s refreshing to link with a group that embraces our imaginations while simultaneously providing professional guidance. Plus, they come with a long line of clientele comprised of artists we love and respect, including Too $hort, Talib Kweli, J*Davey, Keelay & Zaire, Tanya Morgan, and T-Pain to name a few.

It’s been a long time coming, since we were introduced to the Treats a couple years back with high props from our very own PR aficionado, Papa Lo. So it’s a given that we were so juiced to bring them our Kool-Aid packs earlier this week (PUN!) and even more excited about all the ill ideas that’ll be coming from our circle of creative partners that I am dubbing the iLLuminati. We’ll be introducing you to more from the squad soon as the plan unfolds.

PS: Can I just add (without being the least bit patronizing) that even though we’re working with professional PR, we have and always will rely mainly on the people who come to our shows, listen to our music, and check in on our blog rantings to spread the gospel of the iLL-Funk. We love, want, need you from now and into the cosmos, forevermore. Drizzletron outee!
