WEDNESDAY WORD: Sahra Nguyen a.k.a. NASH "Betta Than Ya Dolla!"

100107_sahra

So it’s been a year since we began our weekly bloggy sections, and although Wednesday Word was initially set up as the time and place for our spoken wordie roots, a quick skim through the section will show that we’ve, for the most part, avoided neglected it.  Honestly, it’s because there hasn’t been much poetry coming out as of late that we’re feeling.  My own included.  Or maybe we’re not looking in the right places?

Well, whenever such circumstances occur, my advice is to look toward the sky…in this case, it’s the RIOT IN THE SKY!  I mentioned our homie Sahra Nguyen, the multi-talented poetpaintergraphicdesignereverythingelser from Beantown back in November, and this week she started the year off by reviving the chapbook – a staple in spoken word/poetry culture that has long become defunct and/or reserved for drunken poetry slams in dingy dive bars.  But no doubt our friends are always ahead of the curve, and the newly-dubbed NASH unveils hers digital stylee as a download.  It’s entitled Betta Than Ya Dolla!, and she’s not lying because it’s FREE!  And lightweight!  You can’t lose!

So yup, no audio and no video this time around.  And although you can find some of these poems in the tubes, I recommend honoring that new year’s resolution to read more (you know you made it) and treat yourself to this wordsmith.  I’ll be reading it today on the plane back to NYC…we can read it at the same time!  We’ll be like E.T. and Elliott!!

ps: dude, did anyone else just feel that earthquake???? (no, seriously…i forgot how shaky california is)
