It was last summer that I rediscovered “I Wanna Be Where You Are” — a short track just shy of three minutes featuring Mike screaming his heart out strong enough to make you believe that this little kid knew more about love than you ever could.  I included it in all my playlists and Ruby and I would bump it driving through Oakland’s Lakeshore.  Thursday night after our show in Stockton I threw this on the speakers.  Dahlak would later tell me that the song caught him off-guard, amidst a “Mike did do this song too!” moment.  Sung long before any of us were born, but still managed to find a special place in the hearts of all the members of iLL-Lit.

Here’s a cover of the joint that Ms. Badu and the Roots cooked up before her feature on Jimmy Fallon the night of Michael’s passing.  It’s wonderful to see the artists who inspire us, drawing their inspirations from the same places as well.

Here’s a video of the original…I know I posted it on Thursday already, but c’mon…it’s not like you don’t want to watch it again.
