Ooooooohhhhhweeeeee I’m so excited about Bambu’s new EP Paper Cuts! Here’s an inside look at the shoot for the next single, “Slow Down.” Shot by the homie Tad Nakamura at IMIX Books, the spot where we did our first LA show!
This past spring I released two tracks through my music project with DJ Phatrick, Pretty Buoyant Society, and one of the tracks “Hot Chocolate” is featured in an ESPN spot on FMX (the F is for “fuckinawesome!!”) biker Julian Dusseau! In case you didn’t catch it when it dropped this past spring, here’s the track again, and of course it’s still free for download. ‘Tis the way of thy ‘iLL.Funk.

Here’s a hot new shirt by LA-based clothing company Beatrock in collaboration with my fellow Pretty Buoyant Socialite, DJ Phatrick (hairy legs tot he left not included…sorry, ladies). Over the past couple of years, Phatty and Papa Lo’s party Devil’s Pie has taken off, expanding through the Bay and LA, and offering a hot series of mixes, including the original, a tribute to Sade:
Did we not tell you that this spring and summer would be the tipping point for a bunch of brand new iLL-Lit musics???? We are pleased to introduce Pretty Buoyant Society, the brand-new (well kind of but not really) digit.iLL.Funk project by Drizzletron (some of you know him as Adriel) and DJ Phatrick!
Here’s the lead track,”Schizophrenic Love,” which those of you who we saw on the Natural Electricity Tour this past fall will recognize as a pumped up version of what you got with the samplers we were handing out. It features Alaskan-Oaklandian demigoddess Golda Supernova, and you should download it right now, along with the b-side “Hot Chocolate.” It’s hot, chocolatey, and FREE.
Between rocking a last minute show at midnight, meandering the streets with Bambu, Phatrick, and the Oh Dang! squad, linking up with the homies Honor Roll, The Beatards, Blu, Blue Scholars, and U-N-I, and filling up on hella expensive slices of pizza, we must say that our first SXSW experience has been quite packed thus far!
Here’s some footage of Bobby Ray at the Fader Fort where we’ve been posting most of the day mostly due to the free alcohol and cute hipster girls. If you’re at SXSW check out Janelle Monae at 3, and then come join us at these babies:
With Bambu and Phatrick in the same hotel as us, and Kiwi dropping in tomorrow, it’s been a fat ass iLL-Lit x Native Guns SXSW paaaaaaaarty up in this piece! One of the nerdy perks of all this has been the ongoing listening sessions, with us sharing tracks from our upcoming EP and Bam playing joints from his billions of upcoming projects! Here’s a new one produced by Phatrick, “Ain’t No Future In Yo Frontin’ 2009.” Hotter than Texas!
Admittedly, it’s kinda creepy to see DJ Phatrick just sitting there and making smalltalk while Bambu get tattooed, but that’s LA BROTHAHOOD FOR YOU! Vimby takes you to the different corners of Bam’s hometown, with some dope clips of live shows and a hot lil verse at the end. NATIVE GUNS ALL DAY MAYN!
How has your ‘09 been so far???? A lot of folks around us have been saying that they feel like the year is coming to a slow start. Being that we’ve locked ourselves up in the studio and haven’t seen sunlight since ‘08, we can’t quite confirm whether or not that’s true. But regardless, Friday is the night to sweat and be around multitudes of beautiful people! DJ Phatrick comes back from LA to spin a good one at the monthly Libre, and it’s FREE for non-procrastinators!
Back in November the prediction was made that Erykah was going to beat Jill in the dance-off at Devil’s Pie. Well, in the end we learned that the real winners were the people who attended and had a great time! Okay, that was incredibly canned and corny…UNLIKE THE FREE DOWNLOAD OF THE MIX AVAILABLE HERE!!!!!!
Hey, it’s the end of the year…wittiness will resume in 09.
